Next time you are looking for new hardwood flooring, consider not looking at hardwood. Seriously! The hardwood flooring industry is getting expensive and rightfully so. With so many forests being logged and the ozone being depleted and blah blah blah. The real reason you should look at mock hardwood flooring is because it's better!
What do we look for in a new floor? Durability, affordability, and natural beauty or to be aesthetically pleasing.
One great option is the Engineered Hardwood category. By laminating multiple ply's of wood in opposite directions, Engineered flooring becomes dimensionally stable (It doesn't expand and contract much). Is it just as good as a solid 3/4 " thick hardwood? Of course it is. Maybe 75 years down the road, someone will have a hard time getting all the scratches sanded out, but really, who sands and refinishes their floor more than once if they do it at all in their lifetime?
The latest and the greatest option out there is Luxury Vinyl Tile. Don't be fooled by the name, Luxury doesn't always mean expensive. These floors are ideal for homeowners that want the least amount of maintenance along with greater durability. How do they look? Awesome! Many times these days, great manufacturers like Karn Dean make extremely real looking planks. There's the advantage of real hardwood, I suppose. You can't find two planks exactly alike in the world.
However, for warmth under your feet, ease of installation, nearly waterproof, easy to clean, 100's of different colors and styles, easy repair and overall affordability, I'll be using an LVT like Karn Dean in every room. Yes, the advantages are even greater when it comes to tile-looks, but we'll save that for another day.
Happy floor hunting and we look forward to seeing you soon!
